GK-12 Summary

The KIDS Program:
Summer Training

Prior to being paired in the middle school environment, the fellows and teachers must complete a four-week summer training program. Training is designed to prepare the fellows for the rigors of the middle school classroom, to enhance the fellows and middle school teacher’s science and math knowledge with regards to inquiry, and to provide a bonding mechanism for the fellows and teachers. During this time, participants in the program are introduced to science and math inquiry methods in four phases. Those phases include (1) Introduction to inquiry and the Arkansas State science and math standards, (2) Summer camp, (3) Development of inquiry lessons, and (4) Science camp for middle school students. Throughout this process one phase provides a foundation for the next. Listed below, in PDF format, is a complete description of the each phase.
